Fabulous mammals

Again, an unusual year for us here at Red Mill House, with good numbers of nocturnal mammals popping in to say hello to our delighted guests.

We had been accusing the Northern Brown Bandicoots and Orange-footed Scrubfowl of effectively digging up the new lawn and new vegetable garden.

These guys are regulars in our garden but the diggings seemed smaller, deeper and more widespread - - -.

Great delight when guests spotted a very large, happy Echidna snuffling around the base of a rotting tree, just off the balcony.

Suddenly it all seemed OK!

This photo was actually taken further south last year, on holidays, but this is he.

The following night more guests spent a long time watching a Striped Possum noisily feeding in a Archidendron tree, just outside their room.

Yellow-footed Antichinus have been chasing geckos on the front deck at night, Giant White-tailed Rats chewing holes in the coconuts, and Spectacle Flying Foxes travelling overhead by the thousands each night, with some stopping to feed in our Blue Quandong trees.

All in all, a delightful time. We live in Paradise!
