Good rains for the last few days with a low pressure system expected to build up off the coast over the weekend. Lots more rain to come over the next few days.
Good timing for us as we head off to WA and Spain for our annual holidays from Saturday with our old friends Phil and Carole arriving today for a wet season in Daintree. They love the idea of that and we are delighted to have them stay to look after things.
The first sign of the real ‘Wet’ this week was having a pair of Red-necked Crakes running across the lawn outside our bedroom window in the early morning hours. Hopefully they will breed here again this year. They are always smaller and brighter than you remember!
Plenty of Double-eyed Fig -Parrots in the garden, plus the usual figbirds, honeyeaters, orioles and cicadabirds.
The Daintree River has been busy with Great-billed Heron, Little Kingfisher and Azure Kingfisher, Wompoo Fruit-Dove, Black Bittern and more.
We are off to see the annual spring migration of raptors and passerines from Africa to Europe but won’t mind spending a fair bit of time soaking up the food, wine and art of Spain while we are there!
Adiós! Hasta Avril!
