2016 - a year of change

What a month this has been for Red Mill House.

Christmas saw us at Lake Eacham in the Atherton Tablelands, just enjoying ourselves in one of our favourite places in the world, when suddenly a very attractive block of land near the lake just popped up and bit us on the ankle. It tugged away for the next couple of weeks, and now on Feb 5th 2016 we are the proud owners of 1 hectare of scrub about 1 km from Lake Eacham.

So here we have it - - - a new camping spot with plans to build a (very small) house for the first time in our lives. A rather scary thought, but an exciting one!

Early morning swims at the lake are beautiful. Every day it changes as the mist rolls in and clears. Storms roll in over the lake every afternoon at this time of year. Yes, we know it will be cold in winter, but at 800m asl the summers are a kind relief from the coastal humidity. Very, very excited!

One problem, of course - we can’t move into that retirement phase without selling in Daintree.

So - - Red Mill House is on the market, at what we consider is a price that should sell reasonably quickly. We are asking around $650,000 - 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 1.5 acres of prime land with pool in a fab location and with $60,000 of bookings already in for the year. It is going to be a great tourist season and this would be a great buy for someone starting out in the area or wanting to expand.

Daintree is a fabulous part of the world, despite the humidity at this time of year. Green, green, green at the moment with reasonable rains but nothing major to date. Bird life is terrific and the frogs and butterflies are in their element at the moment.

Bird sightings include Channel-billed Cuckoo, Brush Cuckoo, Double-eyed Fig-Parrot, Pale-vented Bushhen in the park in town, Cassowary at Jindalba boardwalk, Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher feeding their babies along Stewart Creek Rd and azure and little kingfishers and Great-billed Heron along the river. It really is a lovely time of year.

We’ll keep you posted as to our progress - - - - - -. Wish us luck!!
